Sonderopia ("we", "us", "our") operates the birthdAI mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
By using the App, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
The App has no accounts. There is no sign-up, no sign-in, and no password. We hold no profile of you.
The App is free and contains no purchases, no subscriptions, and no adverts.
We collect no device model, OS version, crash logs, screens viewed, IP-derived location, or precise location. The App contains no third-party analytics, no crash reporting, and no advertising software of any kind — the app events above go only to our own service.
| Permission | Why we request it | Required? |
|---|---|---|
| Contacts | To find contacts who already have a birthday saved, so you don't have to type them in. Read-only, and only the people you tick are saved. | Optional |
| Calendars | To find birthdays you keep as yearly calendar events. Read-only, and only the people you tick are saved. | Optional |
| Notifications | To send you birthday reminders. These are scheduled by your phone; nothing is sent through a server. | Optional |
Denying a permission will disable the related feature but will not prevent you from using the rest of the App. You can add people by hand instead of importing.
The App does not request camera, photo library, microphone, location, health, or tracking permissions.
We do not collect your contact list, your calendars, your location, your health data, your photos, or any advertising identifier. Importing reads your contacts and calendars on your device only — nothing from them is uploaded, and anyone you do not select is discarded when you leave the import screen.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising.
We use the information described above to:
Where GDPR applies, we rely on the following legal bases: performance of a contract (providing the App to you), legitimate interests (limiting abuse of our message service, and understanding how the App is used through app events you can switch off), and consent (the optional contacts, calendar and notification permissions, and the per-person choice to share your notes).
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only in these circumstances:
When — and only when — you ask the App to draft a message, it sends the following to our own message service: the name you saved for that person, shortened to a first name where it reads as a full one, your relationship to them, the tone, length and language you chose, the age they are turning if you recorded a birth year, whether they are a child and the name of the adult you write to instead, your notes about them — which are included by default — and the random identifier described in Section 1.2.
We never send a phone number, an email address, a postal address, your contact list, or anything identifying your device.
| Provider | Purpose | Data shared | Privacy policy |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cloudflare, Inc. | Hosts our message service and stores app events | The request described above, in transit; the app events described in Section 1.2 | https://www.cloudflare.com/privacypolicy/ |
| Anthropic, PBC | Generates the message text | The request described above | https://www.anthropic.com/legal/privacy |
Anthropic processes the request in order to produce the message and does not use it to train its models. Both providers are contractually limited to using the data only to perform services for us.
No other third party receives any of your information. The App contains no other software development kits that collect data.
We may disclose information if required by law, subpoena, or other legal process, or where we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, your safety, or the safety of others.
If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred. We will notify you before your information becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
Nothing described in Section 3.1 is sent until you say so. The first time you ask the App to draft a message, it tells you what would be sent and to whom, and asks you to allow it. Until you do, no request leaves your phone.
If you decline, the App keeps working: messages are written on your device from built-in templates, in all six languages.
You can change your answer whenever you like, in Settings → AI drafting → Write messages with AI. Turning it off stops any further sending immediately. Turning it back on asks you again rather than quietly resuming. The same screen lists every field that would be sent. Your notes about a person are included by default; each person has their own switch for this, both on their profile and in the message screen, so you can keep any one person's notes on your phone.
There is no account to delete. You are in control of everything the App holds:
If you have written to us for support and want that correspondence deleted, email camilox216@gmail.com and we will do so within 30 days.
We use industry-standard safeguards including encryption in transit (TLS) and access controls, and we review our systems regularly. Data stored on your device is protected by iOS data protection. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Because we store nothing about you on our side, there is very little for a breach of our systems to expose.
The App is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
The App does let you, an adult user, save a child's first name and birthday — a niece or nephew, for instance — because that is a birthday you may want to be reminded of. That information is entered by you, is stored on your phone, and is treated exactly as described above. When you mark a saved person as a child, the App addresses the message to their parent or guardian rather than to them.
If you believe a child has provided us personal information directly, contact camilox216@gmail.com and we will delete it.
Our message service runs on Cloudflare's global network, and message generation is performed by Anthropic in the United States. If you use the App from outside the United States, the details listed in Section 3.1 are processed there, which may have different data protection laws than your country. Where required, we rely on Standard Contractual Clauses to protect transferred data.
Everything else stays on your device and crosses no border.
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
In practice, most of these you can exercise yourself and immediately: your data is on your phone, the App can export all of it to a file, and deleting a person or the App removes it. For anything else, email camilox216@gmail.com. We will respond within 30 days and will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.
EU/UK residents: you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
California residents (CCPA/CPRA): in the past 12 months we collected the categories of personal information described in Section 1 for the purposes in Section 2. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined by the CPRA.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the revised version here and update the "Last updated" date. If changes are material, we will notify you in the App before they take effect. Continued use of the App after changes take effect means you accept the revised policy.
